Prosecutors have charged Terry W. Anders, 32, of Kansas City, with assault on a law enforcement officer in connection with a hit-and-run wreck that injured a motorcycle officer Tuesday night, according to a court document.

The wreck happened when the officer tried to pull Anders over at about 8 p.m. on northbound Interstate 435 near 87th Street, according to the court document.

Anders swerved and hit the officer's motorcycle, knocking him off the bike, according to the court document.

The 39-year-old police officer, who was in serious but stable condition at a hospital late Wednesday morning, has been on the force for nearly 13 years, Kansas City police said.

He suffered a broken arm, a broken shoulder, a broken ankle, a broken foot, broken ribs and abrasions, police said.

With the help of a witness, officers found Anders and took him into custody, police said.

Anders remained in custody Wednesday afternoon on $250,000 bond.
