A family of 14 said they were lucky to be alive Thursday after a wreck on Interstate 435 nearly Woodland Avenue overnight.

The first thing they did was pray when they found out everyone had survived and no one was seriously injured, the family said.

A tractor-trailer slammed into their RV, shearing off one side of the vehicle, exposing the inside.

"It's by the grace of God that we're still here," said Cleste Shupe.

The driver had stopped the RV on the side of the road after the RV hit a deer. They had just fixed the radiator and were about to continue on their way.

"I turned around and I just saw the RV exploding into the police cruiser," said Bobby Leonard.

Several people were inside the RV and several were outside.

"I will never forget the sound of the crash. I was tending to my young'un when it happened, and it was very scary," Shupe said.

The family was traveling from Virginia to Montana for a wedding.

Four people were taken to a hospital. The worst injuries were scrapes and bruises.

They planned to continue their trip. They were just looking for an RV that could carry them all.
