Gas prices have surpassed the $4 mark in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The price of regular unleaded was $4.06 Saturday at the Shell station off Shawnee Mission Parkway and Interstate 35.

Many other stations were still selling regular unleaded gas for $3.99 a gallon.

Gas prices were a bit lower in Missouri, but the prices were still rising after oil reached a record high Friday of $139 a barrel.
