OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Two women were killed in a wreck on Thursday night in Overland Park, police said.Investigators said two women in their 20s were in a white Nissan Maxima heading west on West 119th Street near Riley Street when the driver, Meghan N. Lampo, 29, of Overland Park, Kan., lost control and hit a light pole. The car caught fire and was partially engulfed when emergency crews arrived. Both Lampo and her passenger, Ashden E. Kranker, 22, of Kansas City, Mo., died at the scene.
Witnesses said a second car was involved in the wreck. According to witnesses, both cars were speeding when the Maxima crashed into the pole. Those who knew the women said they were responsible and wouldn't have been speeding without a good reason.Investigators were trying to determine if the second car was racing the women or pursuing them in a possible case of road rage.Kranker worked at On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina at West 119th Street and Nall Avenue."I know that she's somebody that was always a positive influence and helped me through a lot of things when I was working at On The Border, so she'll be missed quite a bit," said Ashlee Steele, a friend of Kranker.Lampo worked at an animation studio in Kansas City."Meghan was a great girl," said Stephen Goldblatt, her boss. "We loved her around here. She was our office manager and interacted with the whole staff and she had a great personality, a lot of fun."
