Mayor Funkhouser wants Kansas City to be more bicycle friendly, he said Wednesday at a news conference.

The mayor said his Bicycle Friendly Community program will benefit people who want a better place to ride, parents who want their children to be safe when riding and people who want to lower traffic congestion.

"I have thought from the get-go that the obvious solution for crossing the river is a bridge that is specifically designed not for interstate traffic and semis but for a light rail train and for pedestrians and for bicycles," said Funkhouser.
