A 19-year-old died Thursday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving hit a van head-on.

It happened on Missouri Highway B.

Austin Shipp's two passengers were injured and remained hospitalized Friday.

Lacey Ognibene, 17, was in critical condition with severe head injuries at St. Luke's Hospital. Brian Tebbe Jr., 20, was at North Kansas City Hospital with back and shoulder injuries. He is expected to be OK.

Tebbe's family said the trio was headed to a lake on a fishing trip.

Shipp, who was driving northbound, crossed the centerline, according to Platte County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The driver of the van was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Deputies were trying to determine why Shipp crossed the centerline. They did not find any skid marks at the scene. Friends said Shipp, Ognibene and Tebbe were good friends.

Shipp's family, in Weatherby Lake, Mo., was not home.
