Long Term Projects

199th Street: 199th Street between US-56 and Four Corners Road on the east edge of Edgerton will be closed for a bridge replacement project. This closure will be in effect through mid-summer 2009.

U.S. 69: Weather permitting, beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, all lanes of southbound US-69 will close from I-35 to I-435 in Johnson County for drainage installation work. In addition the following ramps will be closed beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17: entrance ramps to southbound US-69 from 87th Street and 95th Street; exit ramps from southbound US-69 to 95th Street, 103rd Street, westbound I-435, and eastbound I-435. The southbound US-69 lane and ramp closures will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, and will reopen to traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20.

The southbound US-69 ramp closures will begin at 9:00 p.m. and lane closures will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, and all will reopen to traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20.

Then, beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, southbound U.S. 69 will reopen to only one lane of traffic (left lane will be closed) from I-35 to I-435 for resurfacing work. This US-69 lane closure will run continuously round the clock for 10 days through Wednesday evening, July 30, when southbound U.S. 69 will reopen to two lanes of traffic.

Advance message boards will alert traffic to the lane and ramp closures. A marked detour will be provided. Traffic will detour on southbound I-35 to eastbound I-435 back to southbound U.S. 69. Drivers should expect major delays and are advised to use alternate routes. Updated daily lane and ramp closure information for this reconstruction pavement project can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.

The U.S. 69 reconstruction project includes the complete rebuilding of U.S. 69 from north of 103rd Street to I-35 in Johnson County. Project improvements include the rebuilding of Lenexa Drive from 84th Terrace to Farley, and the widening of northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from two lanes to three lanes in each direction, from north of 103rd Street to I-35, as well as improvements to the U.S. 69/95th Street interchange. New designated exit lanes for 75th Street will move traffic off of I-35 sooner and will utilize the existing tunnel that was constructed as part of the 87th Street/I-35 interchange project in Lenexa.

The U.S. 69 reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed in the fall 2011.

I-35: Traffic on southbound I-35 will be switched to the northbound I-35 lanes for construction work on the I-35 and Lone Elm Road interchange in Olathe. Both northbound and southbound I-35 traffic will be switched to the northbound side of I-35. Northbound and southbound I-35 traffic will have two open lanes and will be channeled through the project work zone via concrete barriers. Southbound I-35 traffic will be restricted to 11-foot width lanes. This traffic switch will be in effect through late fall 2009.

US-56 & Moonlight Road: An intersection improvement project is scheduled at US-56 and Moonlight Road in the city of Gardner (Johnson County). Traffic will be restricted on Moonlight Road to 10-foot width lanes. Local access will be provided to all businesses throughout the duration of the project. This lane width restriction will be in effect through late November 2010.
