(Meredith) – A baby in Ohio has survived after being born in a Burger King bathroom while the mother was allegedly overdosing on heroin, police said.

to WSYX, the incident happened on Friday, August 3, 2018, around 2:30 p.m. at a Burger King in Chillicothe, Ohio. Police received a call about a man who had passed out in a vehicle. Police found 26-year-old Zachary Frey behind the wheel of an idling vehicle.

Police said Frey was drooling and had slurred speech as they tried to wake him up.

One officer and a medic investigated the women’s restroom and discovered 26-year-old Elizabeth Sanders sitting on a toilet. Police said she them she believed she had miscarried, the Chillicothe Gazette reported. Authorities also said they saw what they believed to be a ball of heroin on the floor next to her.

to the police report, the officer looked inside the toilet and saw the infant face-up. Sanders moved and the medic grabbed the child and realized it was still breathing.

The baby was taken to a nearby medical center and recovering, WSYX said.

Frey has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs of abuse.

Sanders was released from the hospital and was arrested on an outstanding warrant for theft.
