(Meredith) – A 17-month-old toddler in Virginia has died after being left inside a hot car, police said.

According to WTVR, the child was left tethered to his car seat. The boy’s mother called authorities around 12:30 p.m. after she received a call from her son’s daycare, asking her if she was planning on dropping off her son.

She called the child’s dad who said he forgot to drop him off at daycare, WTVR reported. The child was left in the car, which was parked in an uncovered parking deck, WRIC said.

First responders were sent to the scene, where they found the unconscious boy. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

As of now, no charges have been filed.
