FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

Tuesday is the final day to register to vote in the state of Kansas ahead of the August primary election.

And for those who have put it off, there is now a new way to register without taking the time to drive to a voter registration office.

Kansans can now register online and from the comfort of home.

The online option is called KS Votes and has already been used by more than 4,000 people.

Creator and technology executive Brain McClendon says he hopes the online option will help everyone eligible to be able to register.

“All it’s doing is generating a form, converting it to a PDF, and then emailing that form to the county clerk,” McClendon said. “The county clerk has actually found this to be more accurate way of registering than in any other system.”

Those using the website will answer a few questions, such as their name, address, birth date and which party, if any, they are affiliated with. After answering the questions, users will sign the form with their finger before hitting send.

McClendon says he found it hard to register to vote in the state. The new website comes after a judge overturned a Kansas law that required voters to show proof of citizenship. He says it caters to the younger crowd who rely heavily on their phone.

“What we discovered is that part of it is just the user experience and the interface, so building a voter registration app for your phone, that uses the federal form, has made it possible for several thousand people to register to vote already,” McClendon said.

McClendon says the online form takes less than five minutes to use and is over 98-percent accurate.
