LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

Lawrence police are looking for the man they believe tried to abduct a woman who was out for a run.

Officers were notified of a possible attempted abduction that took place on the Prairie Park Nature Trail about 6:45 a.m. Thursday.

A 40-year-old woman reported that she was jogging on the path when a man attempted to grab her from behind. The woman was able to fight to get away from the suspect and flee the area.

The suspect is described as a white man, wearing light colored pants and white shoes with black stripes, possibly Adidas brand shoes. He was possibly associated with a blue tent in the park that was near a picnic table in the center of the park.

Additional actions taken by the suspect indicate the crime was sexually motivated, police say.

Officers responding to the location of the incident Thursday afternoon were unable to locate any people in the area. Patrol officers and detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

The Lawrence Police Department is asking anyone who may have been in the area of Mary’s Lake or the Prairie Park Nature Trail on Thursday morning who may have seen any individuals on the path to contact them at 785-832-7509 to provide that information.

On Friday, some on the trail were concerned.

“That’s pretty unusual, especially for a place like this," James Fergel said. "I wouldn’t suspect it.”

“That was pretty frightening, frankly, because I come here a lot with my wife," Winston Sullivan said. "Every now and then, she comes here by herself. So, pretty worrying.”
