RAYTOWN, MO (KCTV) -

A Kansas City sports legend has passed away.

Bud Lathrop, who won 956 games, 35 conference titles, 23 district championships and four state titles, died Thursday.

He coached basketball at three different high schools in Missouri, but is remembered mostly for his time at Raytown South.

He was the school's head basketball coach for the first 45 years it was opened, beginning in 1961.

He coached from 1958-2006.

As of 2018, his 956 wins place him seventh all-time nationally in the history of high school boys basketball.

He remains the winningest coach in Missouri boys basketball history.
