A 24-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man has been charged in connection with the death of a woman in Kansas City, Missouri in June.

Gari A. Mansaw faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action.

On June 30, Stephanie C. Davis was fatally shot and was found inside a vehicle found near 9th and Chestnut.

According to court records, officers went to the area just before 5 a.m. after someone called and said there was a victim in the street.

That victim told police he had been beaten with a brick.

Police also found a second victim, later identified as Davis, in the front passenger seat of a vehicle.

A review of her phone showed she had been in frequent contact with someone listed as “Gary W.” and the phone number linked to Mansaw.

Police cameras also revealed a vehicle registered to the Mansaw in the area of the homicide not long before residents in the area reported hearing shots.

The assault victim told police that he drove Davis to the scene so she could meet an individual named "Gary."

The victim identified Mansaw as the man who did the shooting.

Mansaw was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 11.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
