HURON, KS (KWCH) -

A Kansas councilwoman is facing felony charges after being accused of biting a corrections officer in the thumb and broke a bone.

Carol Fowler, 48, is a city council member in Huron, KS.

She was in jail for a failure to appear warrant when a corrections officer confronted her about breaking the dress code.

They attempted to remove her jewelry and that's when she bit the officer's thumb, authorities say.

A second officer was also injured.

From a scuffle on that day, she faces three felony charges of battery on a law-enforcement officer and interference with law enforcement.
