JACKSON COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

A Kansas City man has been charged with murder after a man was killed during what police say was a drug deal gone bad in January.

Marcus Franklin, 28, was charged Friday with one count of second-degree murder, one count of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

The shooting happened on Jan. 22, in the 6900 block of Kensington Avenue.

According to court records, police were dispatched to the area of Gregory Boulevard and Indiana Avenue on a reported shooting. A witness to the shooting told police that Matthew Suttee, 28, and himself were meeting Franklin to buy drugs.

The witness says the men met with Franklin and, as they were driving away, he fired multiple shots at Suttee's vehicle.

Franklin later told detectives that he began shooting after he realized that Suttee had given him fake money.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $200,000.
