KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The iconic Western Auto sign will light up the Kansas City skyline again, starting on Friday evening.

The sign was set to be lit up at 8:45 p.m.

The sign on Grand Boulevard went through repairs by the Western Auto Lofts Homeowner’s Association, along with the Copaken Brooks real estate firm.

The Western Auto Lofts were purchased by MCZ Development to rehab the office and warehouse space into the first condominium community within the Crossroads District.

The sign went dark in 2000 and had been turned off since then.

Retired bulbs from the sign will be available for purchase starting on July 9.

For information on purchasing a bulb, follow the Western Auto Lofts Facebook page or Twitter account.

Several watch parties were being held on Friday evening.

"Here in the Crossroads, where we’ve been for 20 years, it’s part of the landscape," said Cody Hogan, General Manager Lidia’s Kansas City. "It’s coming back to life. It glows. It’s warm."
