Roller coaster derails in Daytona Beach, two riders fall more than 30 feet

(Meredith) – Two people on a roller coaster fell 34 feet after a ride derailed in Daytona Beach, Florida.

According to Fox35, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Boardwalk in Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach Fire Department tweeted a photo of riders stuck inside carts, including one that was dangling off the track.

Ten riders were rescued from the roller coaster. Six of them were transported to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time, the Orlando Sentinel reported, however, sources said that at least two of the victims are on trauma alert.

It's unclear what caused the ride to malfunction.
