(Meredith) – Many credit users are not required to sign when the swipe anymore.
In fact, Visa has stopped requiring merchants to collect customers’ signatures during transactions. But it’s not just Visa. American Express, Discover, and Mastercard also scrapped requiring a signature.
One expert told CNN that one of the main reasons for no longer requiring signatures is that it’s not considered a real deterrent to fraud anymore, partly because people don’t sign their full name anyway.
However, there are still some stores that will require you sign because that’s built into their credit card processing systems.
