(Meredith) – A Chicago man is devastated after a home intruder allegedly stabbed his dog to death, and then fell asleep in his bed.
Police said the suspect climbed through a second-floor window on Wednesday and killed the dog when it confronted him.
The homeowner, Joseph Sneed, said he knew something was off when he returned home and a suitcase was blocking the back door, WGN reports. As he stepped inside the home, he found his 12-year-old pit bull dead and the intruder sleeping in an upstairs bedroom.
Sneed said he approached the suspect and demanded answers.
“I just looked at him, and I didn’t know what to say expect, ‘Why did you kill my dog?’” Sneed told the news station. “And he just had a blank stare on his face…no emotion.”
Sneed adopted the pit bull named Carmela when she was just a puppy. He said the pooch was his closest family member and a sweetheart.
Police later arrested the suspect, whose name has not yet been released. Charges are pending.
