OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

For the first time in 28 years, the Overland Park South Rotary Club says they have suspended this year's Jazz in the Woods event due to funding restrictions.

The two-day showcase of local culture and the arts was established in 1989. Jazz in the Woods highlighted the best the Kansas City area has to offer in live music, food and entertainment.

"Since the event’s inception, we have been able to donate more than $1,500,000.  However, we are sad to announce the suspension of the 2018 event due to funding restrictions," the Jazz in the Woods Board said in a letter to their supporters.

The board went on to say it takes over $200,000 to produce the annual family-friendly music festival.

"Every year, our club and its volunteers work tirelessly to design and deliver the largest musical event of its kind in Johnson County by bringing in top-notch performers and vendors.  We are so thankful to you, our supporters, for helping us to keep the music playing," the board said.

Unfortunately, the Rotary Club was unable to solidify the funds needed to provide the high-quality experience they say the community deserves.
