Health department: Flu cases in Kansas City have nearly tripled from last season

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

New information from the Kansas City Health Department shows the number of flu cases have nearly tripled from last year's flu season. 

Since Oct. 1, 2017, there have been 5,725 cases of the flu reported in Kansas City. 

Last year's flu season saw 2,092 cases. In the first week of February 2018 alone, there were 940 cases reported. 

According to the health department, 16 people have died from the flu. 

Flu season lasts from October through May.
