Police are trying to figure out how a man’s SUV, which was parked at a gas station off 71 Highway, ended up crushed at a scrapyard.

He says he’s now lost everything.

At about 9:30 on Sunday night, Dyllon Kennedy was driving north on 71 Highway and his 99 Dodge Durango began to overheat.

“I just pulled in here and I slid all the way until I actually slid into the curb right here,” he recalled.

He parked at the gas station near 55th and Prospect, but when he returned the next morning his SUV was gone.

The store’s surveillance camera captured what happened and you won’t believe what he saw.

“I could see the guy with his truck taking my vehicle out of here,” he said.

Kennedy filed a police report and got his first lead after posting his story on social media.

“He said that he saw them right before noon Monday morning at Midwest Scrap with my vehicle,” Kennedy said.

He went to the scrapyard and made another discovery after watching their surveillance cameras.

“Sure enough, the guy was there with my car,” he said. “You could see him pulling up on the scale.”

Kennedy said his SUV was crushed and, because he was in the middle of moving, everything he owned was inside.

“I was really mad,” he said. “I just want the guy to pay for what he’s done. Not only for what he did to me, but for everybody else and the other people suffering.”

The Chief Financial Officer at Midwest Scrap Management said they purchased the vehicle from a verified salvage licensee and complied with state law.

Kennedy only had liability insurance, so now he’s stuck paying a $2,000 car loan and doesn’t have anything to show for it.
