KC neighborhood frustrated by home that’s become an eyesore

At one time, it might have been a nice-looking home, but in the past few years, people living in the neighborhood have watched it fall into a terrible state.

They say it's become a lot where people dump trash and that suspected criminals are using it as a place to conduct business. A little more than a year ago, someone started a fire inside.

At this point, it's a neighborhood eyesore.

“That house has just been sitting there rotting,” said Anthony Masquat, who lives next to the house. “People come in, come out. City workers go there, try to board it up. But it still gets broken down.”

People in the neighborhood have been wanting it demolished for a long time, so they were confused when they saw a contractor parked there earlier this week.

The company stripped off the metal siding and then left.

KCTV5 News asked the city about it and learned that the contractor just now obtained a permit to shut off water and electricity to the house.

“It's frustrating to neighbors who see this every day and who live by it or drive by it every day, but it's a process,” said John Baccala with Kansas City Neighborhoods & Housing Services.

Now that the permits are in place, the city expects the house to come down in the next few days.
