The woman shot and killed in Macoupin County Thursday afternoon has been identified.

The Macoupin County Sheriff said 34-year-old Rachel Warren was fatally shot at a home in the 400 block of Main Street in Chesterfield, Illinois around 2:30 p.m.

After firing the fatal shot, the suspect, 34-year-old David Buck of Medora, led police on a short pursuit. He was eventually arrested on Kane Road near Range Line Road by the Jersey County Sheriff.

While the pursuit was ongoing, nearby Southwestern High School was placed on lockdown.

Friday morning, the Macoupin County Sheriff said Buck was in custody at the Macoupin County Jail in connection with Warren's death. He is being held on a no-bond warrant from the Texas Department of Corrections.

While in Texas, Buck was arrested and imprisoned for assault on a family member. He was sent to prison in 2013 and was paroled in 2016. In December 2017, an arrest warrant was issued for violations of his parole. Authorities had been searching for Buck for several months.

According to Texas criminal justice officials, Buck was arrested numerous times in the past. In 2002 he was arrested for theft, and in 2007 for assault with injuries involving a family member as well as a separate arrest that year for manufacturing a controlled substance. Those charges were dismissed.

Warren's sister Cheryl said her death leaves the family with a hole that no one can fill.

"It was the most devastating phone call I have ever gotten," Cheryl said.

Cheryl said Rachel's murder is a reminder of the nightmare to losing their brother in a car accident.

"Because a man walked into her house and shot her in the back of the head for no reason we know of," Cheryl said. "It's going to be very hard not having her around. I mean I called her every single day and we talked on the phone. Now, I can't do that."

Rachel's two children, McKenzie,15, and Brandon,10, are still in shock after this tragedy, according to her sister. Cheryl said the kids will now have to live in different homes since they have different fathers.

"She had the best personality. Every time we would have a family gathering or just being around all of our friends, she was always the goofball," Cheryl said
