Grandview police identify man found shot to death in SUV

Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in a vehicle.

Officers in Grandview went to the area of 119th Street and Newton Avenue about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 8 after someone said there was an unconscious person in a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a black 2015 Chevrolet Equinox parked with the engine running in a parking lot in the 11900 block of Newton.

Derek W. McClain, 25, was found dead in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. 

Grandview detectives are investigating his death as a possible homicide.
