KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A Piper Middle School employee is on administrative leave after an alleged inappropriate interaction with a student.

Superintendent Tim Conrad sent a school-wide message to parents, saying in part district officials were “notified about a potential concern involving a social media exchange between an employee and a student.”

The employee is no longer allowed around students or on school property pending the outcome of the investigation.

A parent with a seventh-grade student at the school says inappropriate use of the app Snapchat among students has become an issue.

However, school officials would not confirm if that was the reason the employee was suspended.

The superintendent’s statement also says the district's “number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students.”

Kansas City, KS police confirm a criminal investigation is underway, but would not expand on who it involved.
