(Meredith) -- Actor Jim Carrey is calling it quits with social media giant Facebook and dumping his stock in the company - that's according to a report by Business Insider.

Carrey claims the site “profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it.”

He goes on, "I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same. #unfriendfacebook".

The actor sent Business Insider a statement which explained his stance further, saying social media has created cyber-bridges which allow foreign powers and groups to interfere with American interests.

The statement continues, saying there's no cyber-wall to protect the American people from outsiders, and US companies should take a moral responsibility to oversee interference.

He ended the statement, stating that the world needs capitalism with a conscience.

Carrey is asking his fans and follows to join him in quitting the site.
