KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

An Osawatomie, KS man has been charged in connection to firing a rifle at five Kansas City police officers.

Christopher Foster, 27, has been charged with five counts of first-degree assault and five counts of armed criminal action.

Police say an active shooter targeted officers Monday at 53rd Street and Indiana Avenue in Kansas City.

The suspect surrendered to police at around 5:03 p.m.

Court records state that police say Foster fired "several rounds" of gunfire in the direction of police officers. An officer fired his rifle, but the defendant fired more shots.

He was later apprehended by police.

After he was arrested, Foster told police he ran out of gas and "didn't remember shooting at officers," court records state.

Officers on scene provided statements and said they felt the bullets "whizzing" by their heads.

No police officer was injured.

A $200,000 bond has been requested.
