ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man was charged late Thursday in a shooting outside of the bar he owns that left a teen dead and the teen’s mother injured.

The shooting happened outside of The Other Place Lounge in the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Drive in St. Louis before midnight Feb. 2.

Detectives said Larry Jackson, Jr., 37, was seen on video surveillance removing a woman from the bar and having an argument with her outside. During the argument, the woman, identified as Detra Green,  told police she heard her son yell “mom” from a short distance away. Shortly after, Jackson is seen pointing a gun at the woman and firing, leaving her with serious injuries. He was also seen on video kicking and punching the woman after she was shot, according to a probable cause statement.

The surveillance video then captures Jackson exchanging gunfire with the woman’s son, identified by police as 18-year-old Antavion Wilson. Wilson was rushed to a St. Louis hospital, where he later died. Jackson reportedly left the scene.

Five days after the shooting, police said Jackson turned himself into police and said the shooting was done in self-defense. He told police he believed Wilson was armed and “there was going to be trouble.”

Jackson, who is a convicted felon, admitted it was unlawful for him to be in possession of the gun. He also told police he punched and kicked the wounded woman because he felt she had just set him up to be killed.

Jackson is facing eight charges including Second Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action and Assault.
