Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith led the franchise to 50 wins, two division titles and four playoff bids in his five seasons with the team.

After Chiefs fans learned the news Smith will be traded to the Washington Redskins in March, they've decided to pay respect by donating to The Alex Smith Foundation.

Some Chiefs fans are donating $11, which was the jersey number Smith had in Kansas City.

One fan donated $55, reflecting his five years in Kansas City.

The Alex Smith Foundation "provides foster teens with the tools and resources needed to transition to successful adulthood by developing and promoting mentoring, education, housing, internship, job, and advocacy programs."

There have been over 1,400 donations so far, according to a representative from the foundation.
