2 armed individuals shot by police at Dollar General in Independence, no officer hurt

Posted: Updated:

Two people have been shot in an officer-involved shooting at a Dollar General in Independence.

Police say both individuals were armed.

The Independence Police Department says it's unclear what happened when officers initially encountered the possibly armed suspect, but did say officers fired. No police officer was injured, according to police.

Witnesses says the shooting happened near the front door.

KCTV5 spoke to a family waiting outside the crime scene tape who says their mother and two young children were coming out of the store seconds before the shots were fired.

“She was just screaming, just screaming and she said they was just shooting outside and she was hoovering over my kids,” said Deanna Livingston, whose two kids were inside the store with their grandmother.

The two kids were 13 teen and 11 years old.

It's unknown how serious the injuries are.

Police say 23rd Street is shut down from Westport to Maywood due to the shooting.

This is a developing story. KCTV5 is gathering more details.
