KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Police in Kansas City, KS, have arrested a man after he barricaded himself and multiple children inside a home Tuesday morning.

The standoff started at about 8:30 a.m. at a house in the 2900 block of Welborn Lake Drive.

Police took the man to an area hospital to be examined.

Five children were inside the home with the man. All five were carried out of the home by police and are safe.

Police say they were called to the area after a woman told them that the man was armed and was threatening the children.

Officers were unable to make contact with the man, prompting an armed response. Eventually officers were able to approach the house and were able to speak with the man, talking him out of the house after about an hour.

Police say they plan to search the house for weapons.
