KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One person has been taken into custody after running from the police, hitting a pedestrian in the process.

The chase began in the area of 23rd and Spruce.

According to Sgt. Mahoney, a pedestrian was struck in that area.

The extent of that person's injuries is currently unknown.

The chase ended at 35th and Mersington when the driver hit a pole.

He then got out and ran, but police caught him.

That man is being held for fleeing and eluding the police.

Police are trying to determine if there is any connection between the driver and a homicide that happened in the same area a few days ago where 31-year-old LaShonda Myers was shot and killed in front of her 10-year-old son.

No other information is available at this time.

At least one person in the area was left without power due to the pole getting hit.

“I heard a loud boom so I ran out my door and I seen a car hit that corner," said Robert Forbes, who lives nearby.  “The wire made sparks and that’s how the grass caught fire and the side of the house.”

“It’s so much crime and violence going around, and you hear something like this," he said. "It’s not out of the norm.”
