KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Multiple people suffered serious injuries early Thursday morning on I-70 on the city's east side, police said.

The crash happened about 4:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the interstate from Van Brunt Boulevard to 31st Street

Police say a black Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling east on I-70 when it tried to change lanes and hit another vehicle. The Chrysler swerved and lost control. After hitting a guard rail on the right side of the highway, the Chrysler rotated back across all three lanes of traffic and hit a concrete jersey barrier on the left side. It then spun back to the right and finally came to rest in the middle lane.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the Chrysler was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the shoulder of the interstate.

Multiple people were taken to an area hospital.

All eastbound lanes of I-70 were reopened about 6:15 a.m.
