KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

In between homework and playing with friends, a Kansas City fourth-grader is on a mission to collect toys for children in need.

Kaleb Smith decided to share his love of remote control cars with kids who cannot afford them.

He's a student at University Academy and while it's only January, he is already focused on Christmas. His goal is to collect at least 550 cars to give to other children this Christmas.

"I think it's a cool gift," said Smith, who wants other kids to have just as much fun as he has playing with remote control cars. "You can do a lot of things with different types of cars. It can drive on its back and could do a bunch of 360s."

Smith has started Kaleb's Karz, a charity drive and with the help of his parents, he started a GoFundMe page. It has a video requesting others to support his toy drive.

"My name is Kaleb and I want to collect 500 remote control cars," he says in the video.

Smith had a meeting with his school's superintendent to see if his classmates could donate too. He told school leaders he has seen kids get sad when they do not have toys to play with.

With everyone's help, he surpassed his initial goal of 500 and collected 550 to donate to Toys For Tots.

"I imagined seeing a bunch of happy faces," he said.
