WASHINGTON (KCTV) -

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has been approved to serve as the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom in President Trump's administration.

The U.S. Senate voted narrowly to approve his nomination early Wednesday evening.

For the second time on Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence was required to past a tie-breaking vote in favor Brownback.

Kansas Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer will become Kansas' new governor.

Colyer is expected to be sworn into office next week.
