FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

Mark Zuckerberg has pledged to devote 2018 to "fixing" Facebook.

Now the Facebook CEO is kicking off the effort with a move he says is intended to boost the well-being of users, possibly at the expense of the well-being of publishers and other businesses.

Facebook said it is changing the News Feed to prioritize posts from friends, family members and groups over posts from publishers and brands.

The company will elevate posts that ignite conversations and meaningful interactions between friends while demoting the many videos, news stories and business posts that users consume passively -- without commenting and sharing.

This change will lead to less news from pages you like, but there is a way to prevent that.

If you are reading this post on a phone or a tablet, click here to go to KCTV5’s Facebook page:

  • Below the photo at the top, look for the word “Follow” or “Following” or “See First.”
  • If you see the word “Following,” click on it and then click “See First.” You’re all set.
  • If you see the word “Follow,” click it and then click “See First.”
  • If you see the words “See First,” everything is already as it should be.

If you are reading this on a desktop or laptop computer, click here to visit KCTV5's Facebook page:

  • Look towards the upper-right hand side of the page.
  • If you see see the word “Like,” click on it once to turn it into “Liked,” then click again and choose “See First”.
  • If you want to control how you’re notified when KCTV5 posts fresh news updates, click the pencil icon next to the word “Notification” and you can make your choices.
  • If you see the word “Liked,” roll your cursor over it and then choose “See First” and if you want to control how you’re notified when KCTV5 posts something new, click the small pencil icon next to the word “Notification.”

Taking these steps should prevent Facebook's amended algorithm from blocking KCTV5 on Facebook.

As always, thank you for choosing KCTV5 as your source of news.
