KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police in the Northland are investigating a shooting that has killed one person and put another in the hospital.

The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 3800 block of N Kensington Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital. A woman was later found and declared dead at the scene.

Police closed N. Kensington in the area of the shooting while they investigated. They took pictures, gathered evidence, and talked to the neighbors over a period of more than eight hours.

They are still trying to figure out who opened fire, however.

On Friday, Thomas W. Farris, Jr. was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of armed criminal action.

He is not yet in custody and there is an active warrant for his arrest.

His bond has been set at $1 million.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline (816) 474-TIPS.

In that probable cause statement, the woman who died was identified as 46-year-old Rhonda C. Evans.
