KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Zoo announced Friday that it’s chimpanzee troop just got a little bigger.

Zoo officials say chimpanzee Teetoo welcomed a baby girl named Gracie, on Tuesday morning.

Officials say although the baby is Teetoo’s first, she has plenty of practice helping care for her three-year-old brother Milo and two-year-old niece Ruw.

“Teetoo and her infant are taking time to bond behind the scenes. She has been very attentive, protective and nurturing with the baby,” Kansas City Zoo Director of Marketing Kim Romary said in a press release.

Teetoo is 21-years-old and has a twin sister at the zoo. Teeoni is the mother of Ruw.

Both Teetoo and Teeoni were born at the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan, KS. They joined the Kansas City troop in 2003.

With the addition of Gracie, the Kansas City troop has grown to 13.

Officials say it may be several weeks before Gracie makes her debut in the exhibit. They say, for the animal’s safety, temperatures will need to be above 55-degrees before the group can be outdoors.
