A Jackson County jury has convicted Tymon Reed, 21, in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Javon Reilly as he walked home from school in Independence.

Reed was convicted on Thursday of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

A judge will sentence Reed on March 2.

The shooting happened on Sept. 19, 2016.

Reilly was shot 17 minutes after school ended at Van Horn High School and he was found in his driveway after collapsing.

Reilly was killed behind the school at South Home Avenue near Truman Road.

The charges alleged that his killer had a beef with one of the teen's friends and killed Reilly because he wouldn't fight him over it.
