Officials say progress made on agreement with Edgemoor after discussions on KCI

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

City leaders say some progress was made Tuesday following a discussion about the future of the KCI Airport and Edgemoor.

Councilwoman Jolie Justus says the full council was briefed by their legal council about what's been discussed with Edgemoor since their last meeting in December.

“Everybody is getting questions answered at this point," Justus said. "There are still skeptics without question. I mean there are people who are hearing information for the first time today and they’re going to need time to process that. There are still folks that I think it’s not surprising to know who are still not in favor of Edgemoor as the developer.”

Edgemoor met with the city negotiation staff a few times to work through issues brought up when the council rejected its memorandum of understanding.

Council members said they were concerned about the lack of minority participation, money from Edgemoor for a community benefit agreement and a deal with organized labor.

Representatives of Edgemoor say they have provided additional information.

“Obviously, they’re in closed session today and then there will be the meeting on Thursday. At that point, we expect to get any final concerns from the council and work through them over the remaining days of January.”

The goal is to have a memorandum of understanding ironed out by the end of the month.
