A local business owner decided to fight back after small thefts on a daily basis were hurting his bottom line.

Babir Sultan owns stores in Kansas City, Independence and Leavenworth.

Using surveillance video combined with humor, Sultan shames suspected thieves on social media.

Sultan, one of the founders of Fav Trip, started editing surveillance video using music and humorous narration to deter criminals.

He says the strategy is working.

"After we started putting the video (online), it has gone drastically down because nobody wants to be on video and put on shame the way we have been doing it," he said. "We put it out there and they catch like wildfire. One million views - we would have never imagined that in our dreams."

In one video, he jokingly guessed who would be one suspect's favorite childhood superhero.

He also noticed patterns among thieves and made a video about that.

"You'll notice him looking backward as everybody does before they use that Michael Jackson turn spin move right there," he said about one of the featured parties in the video.

How much of an impact have the videos made?

He says thefts have dropped by 60 percent.

"Sometimes these guys would come back and say, 'hey would you mind taking my video or picture down?' and I'll say, 'absolutely, just pay for what you stole and we will settle up,'" Sultan said.

The motto at Fav Trip locations has become "Thievery Not Tolerated."
