MARYVILLE, MO (KCTV/AP) -

A Missouri man is charged with crashing into a bar and killing a Northwest Missouri State University student.

Alex Allen Catterson, 21, was charged Sunday with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Morgan McCoy, who was hit around 12:40 p.m. Sunday while walking out of The Palms bar in Maryville. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to police, Catterson was being held by employees of The Palms in the driver’s seat of his vehicle which was partially inside the building.

During his police interview, police report Catterson vomited and slurred his speech. He also repeatedly stated he was drunk and asked about McCoy.

If convicted, Catterson could spend anywhere from 3-10 years in prison. No attorney is listed for Catterson in online court records. Bond is set at $50,000.

Police said his blood alcohol level of 0.207 was more than twice the legal limit.

McCoy was a sophomore studying elementary education. She was also student employee with the School of Education and a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.

"She was so well liked and offered so much value within our school, tracking to be what her friends and faculty were saying, she was going to be just an unbelievable teacher," Northwest Missouri State University  president John Jasinski said.

A GoFundMe was set up by the owner of the bar to help assist the family. It has raised more than $11,000.
