OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

A woman is in critical condition at a hospital after being involved in a wrong-way crash in Overland Park late Sunday night.

The accident happened at about 11:20 p.m. near Metcalf Avenue and Foster Street.

Police say the woman was driving a red Ford Taurus and traveling north in the southbound lanes on Metcalf. They say she hit a GMC Envoy.

Officers had to extricate one person from their vehicle.

The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Officers say they fear she could die from her injuries. A second person is in stable condition.

Metcalf and Foster were closed for hours as crews investigated the crash.

Officers are trying to figure out how the woman ended up in the wrong lane of traffic. They are asking drivers to use caution as roads are slick throughout the Kansas City area.
