Independence man sentenced to 15 years for 2015 homicide outside convenience store

JACKSON COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

An Independence man has pleaded guilty and been sentenced in the 2015 homicide of Paul. T. Doughty outside a convenience store in Independence.

William R. Godfrey II, 42, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced on Friday to 15 years in a Missouri prison.

Chief Trial Assistant Jamie Hunt prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.

The homicide happened in September of 2015 at a 7-Eleven at Highway 24 and Noland Road.

Doughty was 53 years old.
