PLATTE CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating a shooting in Platte County that has left a boy under the age of 10 in critical condition.

The shooting happened in the Village of Ferrelview.

Platte County Sgt. Jeffrey Shanks said the department received a 911 call just before 5 p.m. on Friday. It happened in the 500 block of Sixth Street. They are investigating to see if the shooting was accidental or intentional.

"We are not looking for any suspects at this time," Shanks said. "We believe that everyone that was present at the residence when we arrived was present at the time of the firearm discharge."

Shanks said the department is unsure of the exact type of gun used.

More than five people, including the victim, were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

"We haven't ruled out anything at this time," Shanks said.

A lot of neighbors said they know the boy's family and see him playing outside.

They said his name is Jayden and that they are heartbroken he's hurt.

The home where the shooting happened is right next to Regina Hughes and her family.

She said Jayden lives in the home with his parents and multiple siblings.

"My family and their family are really close," she said. "My dad went over there last night to see if they were okay." "Those kids are all really nice," she said. "They're really great kids."

She and others in the neighborhood said that what happened was an accident.

Several neighbors told KCTV5 that Jayden's family spent the day with him in the hospital.

"I know he's hanging on," Hughes said. "They're all just trying to hold themselves together."

The children in her family are friends with Jayden and his siblings. Some of them attend school together at Compass Elementary. They said Jayden is in the 5th grade.

"Everybody knows him," Hughes said. "He's really polite, always talking to everybody. It's just sad to know this happened."

Taylor Kogan remembers babysitting him, even. "He goes around in the summer mowing people's lawns," Kogan said. "Just a good kid."

The Platte County School District told KCTV5 in a statement that they are saddened to hear about this incident, but that they cannot provide any additional information at this time.
