KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

In a year full of accolades, Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Kareem Hunt has more hardware for the trophy case.

On Thursday, Hunt received the National Football League Offensive Rookie of the Month award for the month of December.

In December, the Chiefs played five games. In those games, Hunt led all NFL rookies, rushing for 437 yards on 88 attempts, picking up 111 yards on 17 catches and finding the end zone five times. The rookie averaged 87.4 rushing yards per game and five yards per carry.

Hunt finished the season with 1,327 rushing yards, good for the 2017 NFL rushing title, 22 yards ahead of runner-up Todd Gurley II of the Los Angeles Rams, and a Chiefs rookie record.

The rookie is the first running back to win multiple NFL Rookie of the Month awards since Adrian Peterson accomplished the feat with the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. Hunt also took home the award in September.

Hunt is only the third rookie since 1999 to lead the NFL in rushing. He joins Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys, 2016, and Edgerrin James of the Indianapolis Colts, 1999.
