ORIGINAL STORY:

Police in Kansas City, KS, are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside a truck early Thursday morning.

It happened at about 3:46 a.m. near 10th and Ivandale Streets.

Officers were called to the scene after gunshots were reported in the area.

When they arrived, officers say a white man in his mid-50’s was found shot inside a truck sitting in the middle of 10th Street. Police say the man had been shot in the upper body and rushed him to an area hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Witnesses say they saw the truck rolling at approximately two miles-per-hour on 10th Street. They say it came to a stop a few blocks from where it started.

Police believe the shooting happened in the area of 10th Street and Montana Avenue. They say the victim’s truck had shattered windows and found several bullet holes on the driver's side.

"What I could observe, there were four or five holes in the truck that appeared to be from gunshots," Kansas City, KS, Police Department Public Information Officer Thomas Tomasic said.

No suspect information has been released.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and say the victim and the shooter may have known each other.

"It’s always concerning when high trafficked areas have a shooting, but again, we don’t believe this is someone shooting at vehicles driving down the street," Tomasic said.

Police shut down 10th Street from Montana Avenue to Ivandale Street for several hours as they collected evidence. The road is now back open.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline (816) 474-TIPS.
