A Good Samaritan made a discovery in the freezing cold - a box of abandoned puppies.

A construction worker found the puppies near the UMKC campus.

Six puppies were dropped off in a box and left there. The construction workers, curious about the contents of the box, made the discovery shortly after the individual left.

"Sometimes people get backed into a corner financially and they think they have no option, but there's always an option," said Tanner Lightfoot of Chain of Hope. "Sometimes it take a little persistence, more than one phone call, multiple phone calls to friends or other rescues to see, your local shelters, sometimes you have to wait a few days or a week for a spot to become available."

Chain of Hope is now taking care of the puppies.

Lightfoot says the tags for that driver were not caught by the Good Samaritan, but they hope the person knows things worked out. The puppies will be available for adoption soon.
