1 dead after SUV hits tree, bursts into flames near 98th, Grandview Rd

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities in Kansas City are investigating the city's first fatal accident of 2018.

The crash happened at about 4:10 a.m. near E 98th Terrace and Grandview Road.

Police say a white GMC Yukon was traveling north on Grandview Road, through a series of curves when it lost control and went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle glanced off a wooden utility pole and then hit a tree and burst into flames.

The driver died at the scene and was the only person in the vehicle.

Officers say the driver did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt.
